About the role

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Supervisor to join our ground working Civils Department. The ideal candidate will oversee daily site activities, manage groundworks teams, ensure compliance with safety standards, and maintain project timelines and quality requirements. This role is key to delivering successful civil engineering projects for our clients.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supervise and coordinate groundworks activities on-site, including excavation, drainage, foundations, and associated civil engineering works.
  • Lead, motivate and manage site operatives and subcontractors to achieve high performance and adherence to project plans.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in compliance with health and safety legislation, company policies, and site-specific risk assessments.
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, and clients to communicate progress, challenges and resource needs.
  • Monitor work quality, identify issues early and implement corrective actions to maintain project standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, materials used and workforce attendance.
  • Assist in planning site logistics and resource allocation to optimise productivity.
  • Support training and development of team members, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Full, clean driver’s license (dealbreaker)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Supervisor or similar role within groundworks or civil engineering (dealbreaker)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications (dealbreaker)
  • CSCS card holder (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) (dealbreaker)
  • SMSTS (Site Manager Safety Training Scheme) (dealbreaker)
  • Strong knowledge of ground working processes, civils operations and health and safety regulations (dealbreaker)
  • Relevant qualifications in civil engineering or construction supervision preferred (eg NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) (preferred)
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
