During the summer holidays, Multevo engaged in Youth Zone Darwen’s Corporate Volunteering initiative, delivering workshops to those aged between 8 and 12 years old.
As a long-standing Gold Patron, Multevo jumped at the chance to get involved. The workshops took form as a competition with members tasked with designing a Multevo tea towel based on the organisation’s portfolio of products and services. Over 30 young people got involved in the activity and had the opportunity to get creative and learn more about the industry.
Employees at Multevo casted their votes and selected two winners to have their designs printed as giveaways for the industry’s largest event – Highways UK.
Tamara Hitchen, Events Lead at Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone said:
“We were thrilled to have Multevo join us for a design workshop as part of our HAF programme at Youth Zone Darwen. The creative process was so engaging, and our members absolutely loved every moment of it. The best part was seeing their designs come to life on printed tea towels! It was such a fun and rewarding experience for everyone involved. The personalised tea towels were a fantastic keepsake to take home, and it truly highlighted the power of partnership and corporate volunteering in making a positive impact on our young people.”
One of Multevo’s social value pillars is to empower future generations, with engaging with the young generation a high priority. This is why it seemed fitting for Multevo to use their expertise and share knowledge in a fun way.
The overarching feeling of the highways industry is that not enough young people are aware of the sector and the wide range of career prospects available. Taking time out of our day jobs to build awareness is just a small step towards making highways a career of choice, but, the more organisations that do this, the more steps we take in the right direction.
On the initiative, Aimee Dewse Marketing Manager at Multevo comments:
“It was a pleasure to be involved in this project. It was a fun and engaging way of teaching our local young people about the industries we work in. As a proud patron, it is important for us to engage with the Youth Zone in various ways and gain a good understanding of how they support our community.”
“The tea towels went down really well at Highways UK, with one visitor coming over on several occasions to say it was the best thing they had seen at the event! However, the highlight was seeing the winners’ faces when we presented their designs.”
To further support the community, Multevo are also in the process of launching an employment programme in conjunction with the Youth Zone. The programme will provide full-time hands-on career opportunities with funded industry qualifications to young adults aged 18+ who are supported by their Youth Hub.
