Multevo win LCRIG Innovation Festival fleet category with low carbon innovation

Multevo showcased their ultra-low emission dual-fuel highway maintenance machine at the recent LCRIG Innovation Festival, winning the category for Fleet & Equipment.

The event which took place on the 6th and 7th of July, featured several live demonstrations of different innovations across the highways sector and attracted over 60 different local authorities. Judged by local authority attendees and the LCRIG Infrastructure Innovation Board, Multevo came out on top in the Fleet & Equipment category.

Multevo demonstrated the versatility of their low emission dual-fuel hydrogen and diesel multi-purpose machine in a live working environment including de-icing, flail mowing, flood water pumping, planing, sweeping, and paving in under 30 minutes.

Launched in October 2021, their dual-fuel system displaces diesel by around 40% and can save 26,832 kg of CO2e and 343.20 kg of N2O per year, per machine. This figure does not incorporate the vehicles and plant it replaces which could see this impressive figure increase further.

Delegates were asked to score the machine based on whether it solved a problem, cost effectiveness, ease of use and utilisation with Multevo coming out on top. Delegates feedback comments included: ”seems like a very nifty piece of kit with great manoeuvres” another agreed saying “super versatile” as well as “impressive machine. Removes operatives and machines from the carriageway.”

Glasgow City Council became the first UK local authority to adopt the equipment on a long-term basis for patching and winter de-icing duties. In addition, the likes of Lancashire County Council, Kier Highways (Shropshire Council) and Balfour Beatty Living Places (Telford & Wrekin Council) all helped develop the equipment through early prototype trials on their networks.

Multevo supply the multi-purpose machine for sales and hire across the UK and also use the kit themselves to deliver an all-encompassing highway maintenance service on behalf of their clients.

Multevo are a market leader in permanent patch repairs and the machine has enabled them to massively increase road repair outputs for customers using a fix-first-time approach.

Josh Sweeney, Director of Marketing and Growth said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised by industry experts for our innovation. This has been 2-3 years in development and its fantastic to see everyone’s hard work pay off by showcasing just how adaptable the kit can be in a live working environment in front of a knowledgeable industry audience. We are grateful to LCRIG and the DfT for providing the platform for new products and approaches to come to market and look forward to the funded trials.”

As part of LCRIG’s Innovation Festival, several local authorities put their networks forward for trials and will now have the opportunity to conduct Department for Transport funded trials of Multevo’s sustainable highways solution to help deliver a low carbon highway maintenance service on their networks.
