LOCAL CONTRACTOR SHOWCASE SUSTAINABLE HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE IN TELFORD

Multevo are an award-winning and nationwide highways, civils, vegetation, and traffic management service delivery partner, working with over 40% of local authorities and most tier-one contractors across the UK.

In addition to their service offering, Multevo are the exclusive UK distributor of the innovative Multihog, a multi-purpose compact tractor that can carry out a range of tasks from pothole repairs and grass cutting to winter maintenance and flood water pumping.

The Multihog provides a fast, safe, and cost-effective method of permanently repairing potholes and has been operating across the local network since March 2020 with Multevo self-delivering the works on behalf of Balfour Beatty Living Places and Telford & Wrekin Council.

Multevo’s drive to become a greener highway maintenance service provider led them to developing a new dual-fuel hydrogen and diesel system which integrates with the Multihog to reduce diesel consumption by up to 40%, whilst still having the power required to productively repair potholes. The technology was recently trialled by Balfour Beatty Living Places and Telford & Wrekin Council as part of their commitments to delivering a more sustainable highway maintenance service, with the equipment tasked at repairing potholes and patches in Ironbridge.

Following COP26 Glasgow City Council became the first UK local authority to adopt the low emission and cutting-edge technology for carrying out pothole repairs as well as winter maintenance. Telford & Wrekin Council will potentially become the first local authority within England to adopt this low carbon technology as part of their long-term sustainability initiatives.

Local residents may soon see this technology being utilised to support with the maintenance of the Silkin Way, a 14-mile cycleway route. This forms part of the council’s future strategy in improving the cycleway route in order to encourage environmentally friendly travel provisions within the area.

The multi-purpose design of the machine will allow Telford & Wrekin Council to use one piece of equipment for numerous tasks year-round, with the council looking to purchase a range of attachments including a planer, de-icing sprayer, heavy duty snow blower, flail arm and weed brush.

As a long-term and local partner, Multevo recently supported Balfour Beatty Living Places and Telford & Wrekin Council with a high-profile social value project at Donnington Sports and Social Club. Multevo delivered the surfacing elements and installation of two speed ramps free of charge to help improve the road and access to the club. Multevo’s team of operatives were praised for their ‘willingness to do a good job but to do it safely’ with the project gaining a vast amount of interest from local councillors.

Josh Sweeney, Director of Marketing and Growth at Multevo explains how they’re cherishing their collaborative partnership:

“Multevo are delighted to working with such forward thinking partners who are open to new ways of working and innovation to help us achieve better outcomes like being more cost-effective whilst also reducing our impact on the environment.”

“Being based locally we are pleased to help establish best practice here in Telford to help to preserve and improve our highways assets and we value supporting the local community in the work that we do. We are also currently looking to recruit highways apprenticeships in the town to help new starters learn and earn whilst working alongside our experienced teams too.”
